Denver, CO — On Saturday, March 24, the Denver County Democratic Assembly voted to endorse a socialist amendment to the official platform of the Democratic Party of Denver. Sponsored by the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the preamble of the party platform now reads, “We believe the economy should be democratically owned and controlled in order to serve the needs of the many, not to make profits for the few.” The amendment received overwhelming support from hundreds of elected caucus delegates.

Denver DSA released the following statement in response to the vote:

Despite Colorado’s booming economy, working people across metro Denver are struggling with stagnant wages, rising rents, and unaffordable health insurance. Like Bernie Sanders, DSA believes we cannot have a real democracy in this country when the billionaire class owns all the wealth, while ordinary families are forced to get by on just the scraps.

This amendment is an important first step to show that the Democratic Party truly belongs to the people, not to corporations and the one percent.
